The Audi R8 is a high-performance sports car that was introduced by the German automaker Audi AG in 2006.

The vehicle is solely planned, created, and produced by Audi AG's elite presentation private auxiliary organization, Quattro GmbH, and depends on the Lamborghini Gallardo stage.

The central development of the R8 depends on the Audi Space Frame and uses an aluminum monocoque which is fabricated utilizing space outline standards. The vehicle is worked by Quattro GmbH in a recently remodeled processing plant at Audi's 'aluminum site' at Neckarsulm in Germany.

The R8 development program began in 2004, and LMS Engineering was responsible for the design and development of the car. The production R8 was officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on 30 September 2006. It was also shown at the 2006 Bologna Motor Show.

The R8 went on sale in selected markets, including the United Kingdom, in late 2006. Early versions included the 4.2-liter V8 engine from the Audi B7 RS 4, with an option of a 6-speed manual transmission or the R Tronic semi-automatic transmission.

The R8 V8 was later joined by the R8 V10, which uses a 5.2-liter FSI engine also found in the Audi B7 RS 4. The V10 engine produces 414 bhp and 309 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 313 km/h (194 mph).

The R8 V10 Plus was introduced in 2013. It uses the same 5.2-liter FSI engine as the standard V10 model, but with an increased power output of 542 bhp and 398 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph).

A new generation of the R8 was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The second generation R8 uses a new platform, the Audi Space Frame, which is made entirely of aluminum and weighs 50% less than the previous generation car. The new R8 is available with a choice of two engines, a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine, or a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine.

The 5.2-liter V10 engine produces 610 bhp and 413 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 205 mph.

The 2.9-liter V6 engine produces 532 bhp and 443 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 199 mph.

The second generation R8 is available with a 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission, or a 6-speed manual transmission.

The R8 Spyder was introduced in 2016. It is available with the same engine choices as the coupe and has a power-operated soft top.

The R8 LMS is a race car based on the second generation R8. It was introduced in 2015 and is eligible to compete in several racing series, including the Blancpain Endurance Series, the Pirelli World Challenge, and the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring.

As of 2019, the R8 is no longer in production.
