The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car that has been manufactured by the American automaker Chevrolet since 1953. It is built at the Chevrolet Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.


The Corvette is powered by a V8 engine and has a rear-wheel drive layout. It is available in both coupe and convertible body styles.


The Corvette has been produced through seven generations. The first generation (C1) was introduced in 1953 and lasted until 1962. The second generation (C2) was introduced in 1963 and lasted until 1967. The third generation (C3) was introduced in 1968 and lasted until 1982. The fourth generation (C4) was introduced in 1984 and lasted until 1996. The fifth generation (C5) was introduced in 1997 and lasted until 2004. The sixth generation (C6) was introduced in 2005 and lasted until 2013. The seventh generation (C7) was introduced in 2014 and is currently in production.


The Corvette has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout its production, including the North American Car of the Year, Motor Trend Car of the Year, and the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada Car of the Year.


As of 2019, the Corvette is the longest-running, continuously produced sports car in the world.


History


The Chevrolet Corvette was introduced in 1953 as a two-seat, rear-wheel drive sports car. The first generation (C1) lasted until 1962 and was powered by a V8 engine.


The second generation (C2) was introduced in 1963 and featured a new, more aggressive design. The engine was upgraded to a 327 cubic inch V8. The second generation lasted until 1967.


The third generation (C3) was introduced in 1968 and featured a new, more aerodynamic design. The engine was again upgraded, this time to a 350 cubic inch V8. The third generation lasted until 1982.


The fourth generation (C4) was introduced in 1984 and featured an all-new design. The engine was once again upgraded, this time to a 380 horsepower, 350 cubic inch V8. The fourth generation lasted until 1996.


The fifth generation (C5) was introduced in 1997 and featured an all-new, aluminum frame design. The engine was upgraded to a 405 horsepower, 5.7 liter V8. The fifth generation lasted until 2004.




The sixth generation (C6) was introduced in 2005 and featured an all-new, more powerful 6.0-liter V8 engine. The sixth generation lasted until 2013.


The seventh generation (C7) was introduced in 2014 and is currently in production. The engine was once again upgraded, this time to a 455 horsepower, 6.2 liter V8.
